Crofton Woman Among Trio Arrested Following Purse Snatchings in Gambrills

A 43 year old woman from Crofton was one of three suspects arrested in connection with recent purse snatchings that occured outside of two area businesses.

According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, officers responded for a robbery of a citizen in the parking lot of the Wegmans Grocery Store located in Gambrills shortly after 7am. on Sunday. Officials say the adult female victim was loading her groceries into her vehicle in the parking lot when a male suspect approached her and grabbed her purse. The victim struggled for her purse, however the suspect was able to get it away from the victim and flee. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. The victim did not report any injuries.

About 5 hours later, officers responded for another robbery of a citizen in the parking lot of the Target in Gambrills. The adult female was walking to her vehicle when a female suspect grabbed the victim’s purse. The suspect then threw a different purse at the victim. This purse was later determined to be the one taken in the earlier robbery at the Wegman’s parking lot. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the female suspect. The victim did not report any injuries.

Through reviewing video from both locations, detectives determined there were three suspects involved in these incidents. A description of the suspects was disseminated to patrol officers. At approximately 4:10 p.m., an off duty Anne Arundel County Police Officer observed one of the female suspects inside the Safeway store located at 7643 Arundel Mills Boulevard in Hanover. The off-duty officer called for additional units to respond, who, upon arrival, located the two other suspects in a blue Honda Civic in the Safeway parking lot.

All three suspects, including Christie Jelich, of the 1300 block of Defense Highway, were arrested and charged accordingly.
