Navy Improves Record to 4-0 With 21-13 Win Over Rice
The Navy Midshipmen remained undefeated with a 21-13 victory over Rice on a rainy Saturday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. With the win, Navy improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in American Athletic Conference play, marking the program’s first back-to-back 4-0 starts since 1978-79, a Navy Sports game recap announcement states.
According to Navy Sports, Senior quarterback Blake Horvath led the offense with 110 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Senior fullback Alex Tecza added 105 yards on 11 carries, including a 65-yard run that set up one of Horvath’s scores. Navy’s offense racked up 455 total yards, topping 450 for the fourth straight game.
Despite the offensive output, penalties stalled several drives. Navy committed 10 penalties—seven on offense—which limited scoring opportunities.
Navy’s defense was dominant, holding Rice to just 120 rushing yards—well below its season average of over 240. Sophomore linebacker MarcAnthony Parker recorded a career-high 13 tackles. The Mids held Rice to only 51 yards in the first half and just 2 yards in the first quarter.
Navy took a 14-0 lead into halftime with touchdowns by wide receiver Luke Hutchison on a double reverse and a short Horvath run. Rice scored 13 points in the second half, including a touchdown and two field goals, but Navy sealed the win by recovering an onside kick in the final seconds.
The Midshipmen now turn their focus to rival Air Force, who visits Annapolis next Saturday at noon for the first leg of the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy series. The game will be broadcast on CBS.
Final Score: Navy 21, Rice 13
