"Cadets Putting in Strong Work" Annapolis Fire Department Highlights Cadet Program for Local Youth
The Annapolis Fire Department is pleased to highlight its cadet program, which offers local teenagers an immersive introduction to fire and emergency services. This initiative provides young individuals with valuable opportunities for hands-on training, practical ride-alongs, and mentorship from experienced firefighters and EMTs.
Cadets participate in a safe and controlled environment, observing fire department operations and assisting in supervised, non-emergency capacities, thereby gaining valuable experience without being exposed to dangerous situations.
"The first two weeks of the Annapolis Fire Cadet Training Academy have been full of milestones! Cadets received their uniforms and gear, started physical fitness training, and this week began learning the essentials: PPE (personal protective equipment), SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus), fire dynamics, radio communications, building construction, and firefighter safety," the department said. "They’re already practicing getting into full gear in under two minutes—a skill that saves lives when seconds count. Join us in cheering on these future firefighters/EMTs as they continue their journey of service and dedication to the community!"
The program is designed to educate students on fire safety, equipment usage, and emergency response protocols, simultaneously allowing them to explore potential career paths within public safety.
