State Senator Shaneka Henson Files for Full Term, Citing Family and Community as Motivation

District 30 Senator Shaneka Henson officially submitted her certificate of candidacy this week to pursue a full term representing Annapolis, Arnold, Edgewater and South County.

In the announcement, Senator Henson emphasized that public service is a family decision, made with the support of her husband, Marcus, her son, Khalil, her extended family, and the voters. Senator Henson also reflected on her tenure as a tremendous honor, highlighting her dedication to representing the district's residents, particularly those who feel unheard, families facing financial difficulties, and neighbors seeking opportunities.

Senator Henson pledged to continue advocating for constituents who question whether the government acknowledges their struggles.

"With the support of this district in the Primary Election on June 23, 2026 and in the General Election on November 3, 2026 — 342 days away — I will continue fighting for the folks who often question whether government truly sees or cares about them," Senator Henson said. "Thank you all for trusting me to keep opening doors, creating opportunities, and fighting for a brighter future for every person in our community."

According to an online profile, Shaneka Henson has been a member of the Maryland Senate since January 8, 2025, serving on the Judicial Proceedings Committee and the Joint Committee on Children, Youth, and Families.
