Senator Shaneka Henson, Mayor-Elect Jared Littmann Among Attendees at New Village Academy Groundbreaking in Annapolis Mall
Community leaders, educators, and local officials, including Senator Shaneka Henson and Mayor Elect Jared Littmann recently gathered at the Annapolis Mall to celebrate the groundbreaking of New Village Academy, a new public charter high school set to open in Fall 2026.
State Senator Shaneka Henson, who attended the ceremony, hailed the project as "a joyful milestone" for Annapolis students and families. She specifically praised the school's innovative approach, emphasizing its use of project-based learning, real-world experiences, and the personalized "crew" model. According to Senator Henson, "This is exactly the kind of opportunity families in our city have been asking for."
Backed by the New Village Governing Board, the charter school aims to provide a fresh pathway for local teens through hands-on instruction and community-integrated education. Romey Pittman, the incoming principal, was recognized during the event for his role in turning the initial concept into a fully realized plan.
New Village Academy is expected to begin welcoming students in the 2026–2027 school year.
