Prince George County Resident Begins Journey as U.S. Naval Academy Midshipman

Torene Butterfield, a resident of Prince George County, is now a Midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 2029 — and she’s poised for a bright future after graduation, according to a July 2025 interview with NBC4 Washington

As reported by NBC 4 Washington, Butterfield, the first in her family to attend a service academy, has demonstrated unwavering dedication and perseverance in the face of personal loss, academic challenges, and years of rigorous preparation. 

Butterfield's academic accomplishments include proficiency in both French and Mandarin, participation in leadership programs, and graduation from the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island.

Now officially a Midshipman, Butterfield is preparing for the bright future that lies ahead after completing military training and becoming a Navy officer.
