Ribbon Cutting Event Marks the Launch of Naptown CEO Academy Makerspace
The City of Annapolis held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, November 20, 2025, to mark the grand opening of the Naptown CEO Academy Entrepreneurship Makerspace, a new initiative aimed at empowering youth through innovation, entrepreneurship, and hands-on learning.
The makerspace, a key component of Mayor Gavin Buckley’s “No Harm” violence prevention program, is a collaborative effort with Charting Careers. According to the official press release, this facility will serve as a creative hub, offering young individuals access to cutting-edge technology, personalized mentorship, local business development resources, and experiential learning opportunities. This is intended to enable them to transform their ideas into tangible actions and pursue economic independence.
Mayor Buckley emphasized that the initiative aims to foster both skills and confidence among young residents. He stated, “The Naptown CEO Academy Entrepreneurship Makerspace provides the foundation for young people to explore their passions and develop entrepreneurial mindsets that will shape their futures and strengthen our community. Our vision is to create a space where Annapolis youth can dream boldly, innovate freely, and learn how to lead with purpose.”
The makerspace marks a significant advancement in youth development by connecting students with local business leaders, educators, and mentors. Its focus on collaboration and practical skill-building is designed to prepare participants to become future leaders and innovators.
Dr. Erin Snell, Executive Director of Charting Careers, underscored the collaborative spirit of the initiative, noting, “The Naptown CEO Academy represents the power of collaboration in action. Together with the City of Annapolis Mayor’s Office and Eastport United Methodist Church, we’re creating opportunities for young entrepreneurs to develop their ideas, build connections, and lead positive change in their community.”
This partnership between the No Harm Program and Charting Careers is set to broaden access to mentorship, learning resources, and career development opportunities for Annapolis youth, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community connections.
