Senator Shaneka Henson, Delegate Stephanie Smith to Moderate Civil Rights and Justice Discussion During Maryland Black Caucus Foundation Legislative Weekend

Annapolis' own Senator Shaneka Henson will moderate a key discussion titled "Civil Rights & Justice in Action: Turning Anger into Organized Power" during this year's Maryland Black Caucus Foundation (MBCF) Legislative Weekend. The workshop, also moderated by Delegate Stephanie Smith, will take place on Friday, October 24th, from 1–3 PM.

"I'm honored to serve as a moderator for one of this year's Maryland Black Caucus Foundation Legislative Weekend workshops — 'Civil Rights & Justice in Action: Turning Anger into Organized Power,'" Senator Henson said. "Join me for a meaningful discussion about transforming frustration into effective advocacy and organized action that leads to lasting change. Let’s keep building stronger, more engaged communities together."

The town hall will explore current threats to civil rights and social justice impacting Black communities, including proposed benefit cuts, workplace challenges, protest suppression, and federal policy rollbacks. Moderated by Henson and Smith, the session will feature leaders from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), advocacy organizations, and government.

Panelists are expected to share practical strategies for protecting rights and safety, including "Know Your Rights" tools, workplace protections, and protest safety. The discussion aims to empower participants to turn frustration into organized, actionable power that drives meaningful change across Maryland communities.
