Reverend Louis Boston, Pastor Emeritus of Annapolis' Historic First Baptist Church, Has Died at the Age of 86

Reverend Louis J. Boston, Pastor Emeritus of the historic First Baptist Church of Annapolis, has passed away, according to a statement released by church leadership today.  He was 86 years old.

According to the church website, Reverend Louis Boston was elected pastor of First Baptist Church on January 7, 2006, and served faithfully until December 31, 2022.

In a statement to Report Annapolis News, Dr. Mark A. Wainwright, the current Pastor at First Baptist, said Reverend Boston was a lifelong member and faithfully served the congregation and the greater Annapolis community with extraordinary distinction. "As a spiritual leader, he succeeded his father in ministry—the late Reverend Leroy Bowman, who pastored First Baptist for 61 years—and continued that great legacy, serving as Senior Pastor for 17 years," Dr. Wainwright said.

Dr. Wainwright said under the leadership of Reverend Boston, the church experienced spiritual growth, civic engagement, and a renewed commitment to the principles of justice, compassion, and community service. "In addition to his pastoral work, Reverend Boston was a decorated Colonel (Ret.) in the United States Army, a trusted Police Chaplain, and a passionate advocate for peace and public safety," the statement reads. "His dual service to both God and country remains a model of principled leadership and selfless sacrifice."

"As we mourn his passing, we also give thanks for a life well lived in service to God and community. We respectfully ask that our elected officials, civic leaders, and members of the broader community join us in honoring the life, ministry, and service of Pastor Emeritus Reverend Louis J. Boston," Dr. Wainwright wrote.
