Written by: Jose Gonzalez
A recent interview with Report Annapolis News yielded exciting information about Dylan Gilmer, a remarkably talented 16-year-old actor and artist who hails from Annapolis. Describing Dylan's journey in the entertainment industry as impressive would be an understatement.Dylan said he attended Germantown Elementary and Bates Middle School, before transitioning to homeschooling for his high school education to accommodate his growing career. Dylan's acting career began at the young age of nine, with his first significant role on Nickelodeon's new "All That." He also considers his breakout role to be in "Tyler Perry's Young Dylan," a show specifically created for him and where he held the starring role. This year, he's expanding his reach even further with an appearance in Pixar's "Elio," showcasing his versatility across different genres and platforms. Dylan celebrated the debut of Elio by hosting a group of family and friends during a screening at the Annapolis Mall. In a statement, the City of Annapolis recognized Dylan's success:
"We are proud to recognize Key of the City recipient and Annapolis’s very own Young Dylan!
He’s starring in the new Disney/Pixar film Elio out in theaters now! We can’t wait to see what this talented young man accomplishes next. Let’s show our support, head to the theater, and cheer him on!"
Dylan received a Key to the City from Mayor Gavin Buckley in 2019. Following a police-escorted motorcade from Germantown Elementary, the ceremony occurred at a City Council meeting at City Hall.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dylan expressed his favorite aspect of show business as the opportunity to meet new people and foster positive interactions. According to Dylan, he truly values building conversations and relationships, as he believes these connections are vital for leading to new opportunities and friendships within the industry. He also genuinely enjoys the experience of booking shows like "Tyler Perry's Young Dylan," "NFL Slimetime," and "The Kids Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon."
Known widely as Young Dylan, he gained viral attention at the age of six for his captivating rap performance of Bryson Tiller’s “Don’t.” This early exposure led to appearances on highly popular shows such as "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and "America's Got Talent." Influenced by his father and renowned artists like Jay-Z and Drake, he naturally gravitated towards posting rap songs online, which eventually evolved into him creating his own original music.
Outside of his demanding career, Dylan enjoys typical teenage pastimes like playing video games and spending quality time with his friends. Looking ahead, he has ambitious dreams of collaborating with esteemed actors like Michael B. Jordan, Denzel Washington, and Will Smith, and he also harbors a strong desire to star in a Marvel film.
Dylan said he is currently working on an undisclosed movie project, which is likely one of many roles the budding Hollywood star has to look forward to.
