Three Individuals Detained in Connection with Newtowne Drive Shooting Released, Only One Faces Charges

All three of the individuals who were arrested recently in connection with a reported shooting on Newtowne Drive were released shortly after, court records indicate.

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, at approximately 2:43 p.m, a concerned citizen reported to police that the driver of a vehicle pointed a gun out of the window and pointed a single shot into the air, according to charging documents obtained by Report Annapolis News.  Subsequent to corroborating the report with video evidence,  a search began for the suspect vehicle.

Upon locating the vehicle on Clay Street and conducting a traffic stop, officers identified the driver as Anthony Drury, a 41 year old resident of Arnold. In addition to the driver, officers also encountered two passengers. The documents said that a .38 revolver "wrapped in a white T-shirt," was allegedly recovered from the vehicle's glove box.

"While being interviewed, Mr. Drury admitted to firing the weapon out of his window while driving on Newtowne. When asked why, he stated he wanted to see if it worked," the arresting officer wrote.

Officers placed Mr. Drury under arrest and released the vehicle passengers without charges. According to the documents, Mr. Drury has been prohibited from possessing a firearm since 2006. Mr. Drury allegedly told police that the firearm was purchased "off the street," in Washington DC.

Mr. Drury was subsequently  charged accordingly. After initially ordered to be held without bond, an Annapolis District Court judge ordered Mr. Drury to released on a personal recognizance.

The other two individuals were released without being charged.
