Police Arrest Man Following Multiple Reports of Shots Fired From a Vehicle in Annapolis
Maryland State Police arrested Jose Gregario Cruz-Mendoza, 45, of Lanham, Maryland, after reports of shots fired from a vehicle on I-97.
Cruz-Mendoza faces multiple charges, including firearm and vehicle-related offenses, and is held without bail at the Jennifer Road Detention Center.
Maryland State Police today said the incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on August 17, 2025. Troopers from the Maryland State Police Annapolis Barrack received reports of shots fired from a white Ford Excursion on MD Route 97 and Route 50 in Annapolis.
Maryland State Troopers, with assistance from the Anne Arundel County Police Department and Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Office, located and stopped the vehicle on westbound Route 50 at I-97. Cruz-Mendoza was the sole occupant.
During the stop, police observed Cruz-Mendoza attempting to load a firearm after being asked to show his hands. He was arrested and taken to the Maryland State Police Annapolis Barrack, where troopers noted signs of suspected impairment, according to department officials.
A vehicle search yielded a Highpoint .9mm handgun with an altered serial number, 75 spent shell casings, and 247 live rounds. No injuries were reported.
