Anne Arundel County Police Department Receives Tenth CALEA Accreditation for Advanced Law Enforcement

The Anne Arundel County Police Department has achieved Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA®) for the tenth consecutive time. This accreditation commenced on August 9, 2025, and will be valid for four years.

CALEA accreditation is globally recognized as the "international gold standard" for public safety agencies, involving a thorough review of an agency's policies, practices, and procedures against established international standards. The accreditation process included an on-site evaluation by independent assessors, community feedback sessions to promote public trust, and interviews with personnel and stakeholders to assess the department's effectiveness. The final decision was made by a governing body of 21 CALEA Commissioners following a public hearing and comprehensive document review. County Executive Steuart Pittman commented on this achievement, stating, "This tenth consecutive CALEA accreditation is a reflection of our Police Department’s dedication to the community they serve. It makes clear their commitment to the highest professional standards. I look forward to seeing our police force continue to make great progress in protecting and prioritizing the people of Anne Arundel County.” Acting Chief of Police William Lowry added, "Earning CALEA accreditation for the tenth time is a testament to our department's unwavering commitment to professional excellence and continuous improvement. This achievement reflects the hard work of every member of our team and our dedication to maintaining the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and community-focused policing."

CALEA accreditation is an ongoing process that ensures continuous adherence to its standards. The Anne Arundel County Police Department is honored to hold this "Mark of Professional Excellence," which highlights its commitment to delivering exceptional service to the residents of Anne Arundel County.
