A City United: Dozens Gather to Honor the Memory of Robert Eades on His Birthday for Memorial Park Groundbreaking
Dozens of people gathered today to mark the 69th birthday of the late Robert Eades, kicking off the construction of a park dedicated to his memory and celebrating his enduring impact. The public ceremony today marked the start of this eight-month project at the park site, 701 Glenwood Street in Annapolis. The revitalization of a park on College Creek was dedicated to Robert Eades, a cherished Annapolis resident and community advocate.
Eades, who passed in 2020, had extensive volunteer work with the Light House Shelter and the Restoration Community Development Corporation. He championed the Clay Street community and supported Annapolis families facing housing insecurity. Mayor Gavin Buckley recognized his profound impact, stating, "Robert Eades gave his heart and soul to this City and especially to those who needed a hand. Dedicating this park in his name is a tribute to his legacy of service, compassion, and community spirit. It's a space that will not only enhance the neighborhood but also bring people together, like Robert once did."
Mr. Eades always ensured that transportation never had to be a barrier to achieving life's milestones for many in the community. With the help of Robert Eades, The Neet 'n' Klean Taxi Co was always reliable and dependable, regardless of anyone's ability to pay. Additionally, Mr. Eades' founding of the Neet 'n' Klean Boys and Girls Club opened doors to new opportunities for the area's young people.
The park will feature an updated sidewalk on Glenwood Street, a brick path to a memorial circle with seating and a plaque for Mr. Eades, a water access path, bike racks, and landscaping. The design team includes Annapolis Landscape Architects, local artist Comacell Brown, McCrone (design engineer), Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates (geotechnical engineer), and Superior Facilities Management Services, LLC (SFMS, LLC) for construction oversight.
Construction starts in early September, with an estimated completion in April 2026, weather permitting. Work will occur Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with temporary fencing. Expect occasional sidewalk and lane closures, and limited parking. Emergency vehicle access will always be maintained.
