City of Annapolis Officially Announces Groundbreaking Ceremony for Robert Eades Memorial Park in the Clay Street Community
The City of Annapolis has announced a groundbreaking ceremony for Robert Eades Memorial Park at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025. This park, situated on College Creek, is being revitalized and dedicated to Robert Eades, a cherished Annapolis resident and community advocate.
The public ceremony will take place at the park site, located at 701 Glenwood Street in Annapolis. Construction is expected to span approximately eight months.
Robert Eades was a devoted advocate for the Clay Street community and a steadfast supporter of Annapolis families facing housing insecurity. Following his passing in 2020, this park will serve as a lasting tribute to his extensive volunteer efforts, particularly with the Light House Shelter and the Restoration Community Development Corporation. His commitment to empowering others profoundly impacted numerous Annapolis residents. Mayor Gavin Buckley remarked, "Robert Eades gave his heart and soul to this City and especially to those who needed a hand. Dedicating this park in his name is a tribute to his legacy of service, compassion, and community spirit. It's a space that will not only enhance the neighborhood but also bring people together, like Robert once did."
The park's design features an updated sidewalk along Glenwood Street, a picturesque brick path leading to a memorial circle with seating, a plaque honoring Mr. Eades, a water access path, bicycle racks, and meticulously designed landscaping. The total project investment amounts to $517,665, comprising $136,894 for planning and design, and $380,771 for construction. The design team includes Annapolis Landscape Architects, local artist Comacell Brown, McCrone as the design engineer, Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates as the geotechnical engineer, and Superior Facilities Management Services, LLC (SFMS, LLC) overseeing construction.
Construction is slated to commence in early September, with an estimated completion date of April 2026, contingent on weather. Temporary fencing will be installed, and construction activities will occur Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents may experience intermittent sidewalk and temporary lane closures, along with limited parking in the immediate vicinity during operational hours. Emergency vehicle access will be consistently maintained. Related links:Future of Clay Street's Robert Eades Memorial Park Uncertain as Annapolis City Leaders Sidestep Questions on Project Status
