Clay Street Homicide Suspect Faces Federal Gun Possession Charges After Alleged Firearms Recovery During Arrest in DC

Roscoe Jerome Jones, who was identified as a suspect in connection with the March 2025 homicide in Annapolis' Clay Street Community, is now facing federal gun possession charges after being detained in Washington D.C. on outstanding Prince George's County warrants.

On March 19, 2025, Annapolis Police Department homicide detectives initiated an investigation into a fatal shooting on the 100 block of Clay Street at approximately 7:40 a.m. The victim was identified as John Simms, Jr., 36, of Annapolis, and a juvenile also sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Following the incident, Annapolis Police announced their intent to arrest Roscoe Jerome Jones of Oxon Hill, charging him with ten offenses, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and assault.
On Monday, April 7, 2025, at approximately 10:33 a.m., the Metropolitan Police Department, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, apprehended the 31-year-old suspect in Washington D.C. According to documents obtained by Report Annapolis News, investigators located Jones based on information suggesting he might be staying at a nearby apartment and had been seen driving a distinctive 2019 Honda Accord, which was reported stolen. Upon entry into the residence to arrest Jones, a Glock 30, .45 caliber firearm, was found in plain view, and during a subsequent warrant execution, a second firearm—a Micro Draco, 7.62 caliber, with no serial number—was allegedly discovered.

Jones was allegedly also found in possession of a house key and a vehicle key fob that activated the lights on the aforementioned Honda, and a rifle magazine was recovered from a table in the bedroom. Subsequently, Jones was reportedly charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Although Mr. Jones has been in custody since April 7, 2025, court records appear to suggest that he has not yet been formally served with the warrant related to the March 19, 2025 incident on Clay Street. A source informed Report Annapolis News that Roscoe Jones is currently being held in Washington, D.C., on local charges and is in federal custody, and his extradition to Anne Arundel County is pending the resolution of his case in D.C.
