Multiple Residents Displaced After Lightening Strikes Apartment Building in Annapolis
Multiple residents have been displaced after a lightning strike hit an apartment building in Annapolis.
Shortly after 5:30 pm yesterday, firefighters from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, the City of Annapolis Fire Department, and the U.S. Naval Academy Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at Regatta Bay Apartments on the unit block of Regatta Bay Court. Multiple calls were received by Anne Arundel County Fire Alarm regarding a lightning strike hitting the rear of the building during a storm. Upon arrival, firefighters found a four-story apartment building with visible flames on the Charlie side, which is the rear of the structure. A Working Fire Dispatch (WFD) was requested to bring additional firefighters and resources to the scene.
Firefighters forced open apartment doors to locate the fire, which was situated between the third and fourth floors and extended through the soffit into the attic. Additional firefighters positioned ladders on the building while others applied water to the fire.
Several residents were displaced, however there were no reported injuries.
