ICE Detains Man Found Guilty of Assault in Anne Arundel County
Last month, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Javid Ahmadi, a 27-year-old Afghani national, in Elkridge. Ahmadi was recently convicted for second-degree assault originating from an incident in Anne Arundel County.
Ahmadi was initially arrested by U.S. Border Patrol on October 10, 2023, near San Ysidro, California, where he was issued a notice to appear and subsequently released.
More recently, on June 19, 2024, the Anne Arundel County Police Department arrested and charged him with serious offenses, including second-degree assault, fourth-degree sex offense, and indecent exposure. He was later convicted of second-degree assault by the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County on April 9 and received a suspended sentence of 11 months and 29 days of confinement.
Nikita Baker, acting Field Office Director for ICE Baltimore, released a statement regarding the arrest, emphasizing, "The arrest of this criminal alien offender, who has been convicted of assault here in Maryland, highlights the ongoing threat posed by individuals who violate our immigration laws and engage in serious criminal activity after entering the United States illegally. ICE Baltimore will continue to prioritize the arrest and removal of criminal aliens who endanger the safety and well-being of our Maryland communities."
Ahmadi is currently in ICE custody following his arrest.
