Marcus James Jr, 29 & Thomas Sellman III, 30, of Anne Arundel County Identified as Victims in Fatal Crash on I97, State Police Say
The Maryland State Police have identified two Anne Arundel County residents who tragically died in the single-vehicle crash on I-97 last night.
The individuals have been identified as Thomas Oliver Sellman III, 30, from Churchton, Maryland, and Marcus Eric James Jr., 29, from Shady Side, Maryland. Both Mr. Sellman and Mr. James were pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
The incident occurred on June 17, at approximately 9:03 p.m., when troopers from the Maryland State Police Annapolis Barrack responded to reports of a vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 97, just north of Farm Road. Preliminary findings reported by the police department suggest that a Dodge Durango, operated by Mr. Sellman, veered off the northbound lanes of I-97 for reasons that are currently unknown. The vehicle traveled off the right shoulder into a wooded area, where it subsequently struck two trees before overturning. Mr. James was a passenger in the Durango at the time of the accident, authorities say.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the ongoing investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding this tragic event. Personnel from the Anne Arundel County Police Department and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration provided assistance with traffic control and road closures, which were in effect for approximately four hours following the crash.
