Traffic Stop Conducted by Anne Arundel County Police Officers Yields Arrests on Drug Related Charges
Two people were arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop conducted by the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
On May 29, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m., law enforcement officers initiated a traffic stop of a black Lexus in the 7400 block of Fort Smallwood Road. During the course of this stop, substances suspected to be controlled dangerous substances were observed in plain sight within the vehicle.
Subsequently, as officers were detaining the driver and the front seat passenger, the driver, identified as Donald Amechi C. Igwebuike Jr., a 23-year-old resident of Silver Spring, Maryland, was found to be in possession of a loaded .45 caliber Glock handgun along with a secondary loaded magazine. A second handgun, specifically a 10mm Glock, was located on the front passenger floorboard of the vehicle.
Further investigation led to the recovery of approximately 23 grams of suspected marijuana, approximately 186 grams of suspected codeine, one suspected alprazolam pill, and nine individually packaged THC vape pens. In addition, $2,016.00 in United States currency was seized.
The front seat passenger has been identified as Dawda Kairaba Jawara, a 25-year-old resident of Columbia, Maryland.
Both Mr. Igwebuike Jr. and Mr. Jawara were subsequently arrested and charged accordingly.
