Unique Annapolis Partnership Puts Wellness on the Water; Cruises Link Wellness House Members with Eastport Yacht Club Captains

A longstanding maritime tradition in Annapolis is being paired with a mission of healing and support through a unique collaboration between the Eastport Yacht Club and the Wellness House of Annapolis.

Since its establishment, Eastport Yacht Club has served as a cornerstone of the city’s vibrant sailing community. Located along Spa Creek, the club has grown into a premier destination for sailing enthusiasts and is widely recognized for its role in organizing the annual Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade, which has been named “Best Christmas Parade in America” by USA Today.

The club’s volunteer-driven spirit is extending beyond recreation and into community wellness through “Wellness on the Water,” a collaborative program with Wellness House of Annapolis. The nonprofit provides non-medical support services to cancer patients and their families, offering a wide range of therapeutic programs designed to promote well-being at no cost to participants.

Through the partnership, Wellness House members, many of whom may not otherwise have access to time on the water, are invited to experience the restorative benefits of boating. Volunteer captains and crews from Eastport Yacht Club donate their time, vessels, and expertise to host outings for members, caregivers, and families.

The program is set to launch its upcoming season on Tuesday, June 5, beginning with lunch at the yacht club followed by an afternoon on the water. Participants may take part in sailing activities such as trimming sails or steering a powerboat, or simply relax and enjoy the calm and serenity of the Chesapeake Bay.

Organizers say the cruises offer more than just recreation, they provide a meaningful opportunity for connection, reflection, and emotional renewal.
Last season, the initiative drew support from more than a dozen volunteer captains and crews, enabling nearly 100 Wellness House members and their guests to enjoy a day of boating.

Participants and volunteers alike describe the experience as transformative. One Eastport Yacht Club captain noted that the program brings together individuals who share a deep appreciation for the water and the sense of peace it provides.

With another season set to begin, organizers hope to continue expanding access to these unique outings, reinforcing Annapolis’ identity as a community where maritime tradition and compassionate service go hand in hand.
