Anne Arundel County FOP Endorses Carolynn Grammas for State’s Attorney
The Anne Arundel County Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) has recently announced its endorsement of Carolynn Grammas for Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney.
“Our organization does not take political endorsements lightly, and under normal circumstances, we do not endorse in this race,” said FOP President O’Brien Atkinson. “However, our detectives and police officers, both active and retired, have made it clear that this election is too important to remain silent. We are asking our community to join us in electing Carolynn Grammas.”
In its announcement, the FOP described the State’s Attorney’s Office as a critical component of public safety in Anne Arundel County, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and prosecutors in achieving convictions and protecting the community.
According to the organization, members have reported concerns in recent years regarding case outcomes, including not guilty verdicts in strong cases, reduced charges through plea agreements, and dismissals that they say have allowed repeat offenders to return to the community. The FOP said these outcomes have impacted both law enforcement efforts and public confidence in the justice system.
The statement also referenced concerns about leadership and stability within the State’s Attorney’s Office, citing criticism from circuit and appellate courts as well as staff turnover and internal changes.
“Our officers and detectives are doing everything they can to protect this county,” Atkinson said. “But they cannot do it alone, and right now, they are not getting the level of partnership they need from the State’s Attorney’s Office.”
The FOP characterized Carolynn Grammas as an experienced prosecutor with longstanding ties to the county and broader Maryland criminal justice system. The organization cited her professional reputation, preparation, and approach to fairness and accountability as key reasons for its endorsement.
“Our members know Carolynn Grammas. They have worked with her, they trust her, and they know she has the experience and leadership to restore this office to the standard our community expects,” Atkinson said.
The Fraternal Order of Police described the race as a significant moment for public safety in Anne Arundel County.
“It is time to restore accountability, professionalism, and results to the Office of the State’s Attorney,” Atkinson added. “Our officers deserve a partner in prosecution, not an obstacle.”
