Anne Arundel Community College Names Delonte Joyce Head Men’s Basketball Coach

Anne Arundel Community College has announced the hiring of Delonte Joyce as head men’s basketball coach, bringing more than a decade of experience in coaching, education, and player development to the Riverhawks program.

Coach Joyce joins the college after six seasons as an assistant coach at Chesapeake College, where the Skipjacks earned multiple national rankings at the NJCAA Division II level. During his tenure, the program captured the 2023 Region 20 championship and advanced to the NJCAA Division II national tournament for the first time in school history.

“I am truly honored to have the opportunity to serve as the head men’s basketball coach at Anne Arundel Community College,” Coach Joyce said. “It has always been a dream of mine to be a head coach. To return to Anne Arundel County and the Annapolis area where I was raised makes this opportunity especially meaningful. I am grateful to be able to give back to the community that gave so much to me and played a significant role in shaping who I am today.”

At Chesapeake College, Coach Joyce played a key role in recruiting, game preparation, skill development, and overall program operations. He helped develop nine All-Region 20 players, one All-American, and five NJCAA All-Academic honorees. He also managed the team’s social media presence and produced transfer-ready highlight film for student-athletes, helping 21 players move on to four-year institutions.

Coach Joyce began his collegiate coaching career as a student assistant at Bethany College and later served as an assistant coach at Indian Creek School before joining Chesapeake College.

As a player at Bethany College, Coach Joyce was a 1,000-point scorer, conference player of the year, a two-time first-team all-conference selection, and a two-year team captain. He graduated in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and later played professionally in Australia’s Big V Basketball League.

A native of Annapolis, Coach Joyce was an All-Anne Arundel County player at Annapolis High School, where he competed for four seasons under Head Coach John Brady.

“Coach Joyce has a proven record of building strong relationships with student-athletes, coaches and the local basketball community throughout his career,” said AACC Athletic Director Duane Herr. “His experience, leadership, and strong ties to Anne Arundel County make him an ideal fit to lead our men’s basketball program.”

Coach Joyce will assume his duties immediately.
