Officials Celebrate Completion of Renovated Morris H. Blum Senior Apartments in Annapolis' Historic Old 4th Ward Community
Local, state, and federal officials gathered in Annapolis this morning to mark the completion of renovations at the Morris H. Blum Senior Apartments within the city's historic Old 4th Ward community.
Melissa Maddox Evans, Executive Director for the Housing Authority for the City of Annapolis, was joined by Senator Shaneka Henson, Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day, HACA Chairman Dr. Craig Coates, Mayor Jared Littmann, Alderwoman Diesha Contee, Bishop Charles Carroll Sr., and others.
The Morris H. Blum Senior Apartments, located at 701 Glenwood Street, were jointly developed by the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis and The Community Builders. The project included the acquisition and rehabilitation of 154 units.
State officials noted that the Department of Housing and Community Development supported the project through multiple financing programs, including Rental Housing Works and federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits, which the department administers for Maryland. The comprehensive rehabilitation project took more than two years to complete and included a wide range of upgrades aimed at improving living conditions for residents.
Improvements included new windows, upgraded cabinets, modern countertops, improved toilets, and state-of-the-art kitchen appliances. Additional enhancements include an updated roof, refreshed landscaping, modernized elevators, energy-efficient LED lighting, gas water heaters, and the addition of a new multi-purpose room designed to serve the needs of the community.
The renovations are intended to enhance both the quality of life and overall living environment for residents at the senior apartment complex.
