Navy Football Honors Most Improved Player with 2026 Admiral Mack Award
Rising junior Charles Robinson has been named the 2026 Admiral Mack Award winner, according to a statement from NavySports.com. The honor, announced by Navy head football coach Brian Newberry, recognizes the most improved player during the program’s spring drills as selected by the coaching staff.
The Vice Admiral William P. Mack Award, established in 1976, is named for Vice Adm. William P. Mack, who served as superintendent of the United States Naval Academy from 1972 to 1975 and was known for his strong support of intercollegiate athletics, the statement noted.
According to the statement, Robinson’s recognition follows a standout spring season that highlighted his continued development within the program. Originally recruited as a quarterback, Robinson transitioned to a running back position after his freshman year and appeared in 13 games during the fall season. He recorded 10 carries for 33 yards and added two receptions for 21 yards as Navy compiled an 11-2 record.
“Improvement is the truest measure of character,” Newberry said in the statement, emphasizing the program’s focus on player development alongside performance. He added that Robinson distinguished himself among several candidates through his “relentless commitment to growth,” consistently meeting challenges and translating potential into production.
Offensive coordinator Drew Cronic also praised Robinson’s progress, stating that the rising junior is prepared to compete for a starting role. According to the statement, Cronic pointed to Robinson’s physical development — including adding 20 pounds of muscle — as well as his growing confidence and playmaking ability throughout spring practice.
Assistant coach David Cole echoed that sentiment, describing Robinson as “a joy to coach” and expressing enthusiasm for his continued growth heading into the upcoming season.
A 2023 graduate of The Webb School of Knoxville, Robinson went on to attend the Naval Academy Preparatory School during the 2023–24 academic year, the statement said. He was also recognized as a two-time Tennessee Sports Writers Association Division II-AA all-state selection during his high school career.
The Admiral Mack Award is widely regarded within the program as a reflection of leadership, discipline, and a sustained commitment to improvement — qualities that, according to the statement, Robinson demonstrated throughout the spring.
