Mayor Jared Littmann Announces Departure of City Attorney

Mayor Jared Littmann today announced that City Attorney D. Michael Lyles will be leaving his position, effective immediately, after six years of service to the City of Annapolis.

Mayor Littmann acknowledged the long-standing commitment and contributions of the outgoing City Attorney: “Mike has served the Annapolis community with integrity and professionalism. We are grateful for his years of public service and the legal guidance he has provided.”

Assistant City Attorney Kerry Berger has been named Acting City Attorney, a role she has successfully fulfilled during prior transitions. As Acting City Attorney, Berger will ensure continuity of legal services and representation for the City.

Mayor Littmann has directed the Human Resources Department to begin recruitment for a new City Attorney.

Under the City’s municipal code, the Office of Law is under the direct purview of the Mayor and serves as the City’s legal arm. The primary role of the City Attorney is to provide legal advice, representation, and guidance to the Mayor, departments, boards and commissions, and assist the City Council in the preparation of legislation.
