ICE Agents Open Fire on Van After Alleged Attempt to Strike Officers in Glen Burnie; Occupants Shot and Hospitalized, Investigations Ongoing
This morning, a shooting involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Glen Burnie resulted in the hospitalization of two individuals. The incident occurred at 10:51 a.m. in the 500 block of West Court, a press release said.
According to Anne Arundel County police, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations agents were conducting a targeted immigration enforcement operation when they approached a white van after identifying the driver as a person of interest. Sources reported that agents ordered the driver to turn off the engine, but he refused and attempted to flee.
The driver allegedly rammed several ICE vehicles and drove directly toward agents, appearing to attempt to run them over. Fearing for their safety and public safety, agents fired their service weapons, sources told Report Annapolis News. The van crashed between two buildings in a wooded area behind nearby homes.
The driver, an undocumented immigrant from Portugal, was struck by gunfire and is currently listed in stable condition. The passenger, identified as an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador, sustained minor injuries, according to sources.
Multiple investigations into the incident are ongoing.
