Dawn Pulliam Announces Bid for Anne Arundel County Council District 7
Dawn Pulliam has announced her candidacy for the Anne Arundel County Council representing District 7, citing the rising cost of living and responsible growth as top priorities for residents across the district.
Pulliam, who serves as Vice President of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education, is a Crofton resident with more than 25 years of experience spanning academia, defense, government, and industry. She holds undergraduate and master’s degrees in finance and marketing from the University of Maryland and brings a background in program management, budget oversight, and workforce and educational development.
“I am running for County Council because District 7 families deserve a strong advocate—someone who is laser-focused on the issues that are hitting households the hardest,” Pulliam said. “The rising cost of living and affordability is the single biggest challenge facing every resident in Anne Arundel County.”
According to Pulliam, escalating expenses such as utilities, property taxes, fees, housing costs, and everyday necessities are placing strain on residents throughout the county. She emphasized that affordability concerns impact people across all demographics, including retirees on fixed incomes, young families, and small businesses. “Local government must do its part to make Anne Arundel County an affordable place to live and raise a family,” she said.
In addition to addressing cost-of-living issues, Pulliam said she is committed to protecting the character of District 7 by carefully managing residential density. She pledged to preserve South County’s rural landscape and to oppose overdevelopment in communities such as Crofton and Edgewater.
Pulliam also expressed appreciation for current District 7 Councilwoman Shannon Leadbetter, thanking her for her service to the district and the county. She noted that Leadbetter has been a supportive partner during her time on the Board of Education.
As she begins her campaign, Pulliam said she plans to build on the relationships and experience she has gained while serving District 7 residents through the school system. She highlighted her understanding of the county budget, noting that approximately half of Anne Arundel County’s budget is allocated to public schools.
“Together we can protect our quality of life, strengthen our community, and ensure that Anne Arundel County is affordable for the families who call it home,” Pulliam said.
