Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation Taps Annapolis Native Comacell Brown to Develop Mural at Rotary Park in Glen Burnie
The Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation (AAEDC) recently announced that Annapolis native Mr. Comacell “Cell Spitfire” Brown Jr. has been selected to design and install a new mural on the two exterior walls of Rotary Park, located in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
According to Ms. Amy Gowan, President and CEO of the AAEDC, there is considerable enthusiasm within the local arts community for this initiative. She noted that bringing Mr. Brown's artistic talent to Rotary Park is consistent with the AAEDC's placemaking endeavors aimed at revitalizing the Glen Burnie Town Center.
Mr. Brown, a multidisciplinary artist with expertise in murals and graphic design, is scheduled to commence the project this May with an anticipated completion in June. This mural represents a significant achievement in his career, being his 50th mural overall and his 20th within Anne Arundel County. Members of the public are invited to observe the mural's creation.
Mr. Brown conveyed his enthusiasm for this undertaking, expressing his eagerness to transform the existing blank walls into a dynamic piece of art that both celebrates Glen Burnie's history and envisions its future.
The selection of Mr. Brown was the result of a competitive process that began with a Request for Qualifications in late 2024 and culminated in a review of proposals by a dedicated selection committee.
Funding for this public art installation is generously provided through a Community Legacy Grant from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. This grant also supports additional enhancements in the Glen Burnie Town Center, including prominent signage and the forthcoming Glen Burnie Better Plaza, which is scheduled to be unveiled with a two-day festival on June 6–7.
