Annapolis Man, 74, Identified as Victim in Fatal Hit and Run Crash

The Annapolis Police Department has identified a 74-year old local man as the victim in a recent fatal hit and run crash.

In a press release, department officials said on January 24, at approximately 10:07pm, officers responded to an area on Hilltop Lane near Merryman Road for a bicyclist struck by a vehicle. The bicyclist, Zarko Peruza, died on the scene from his injuries, the press announcement said.

The striking vehicle reportedly failed to remain on scene and has yet to be located.

A GoFundMe page has been created by Mr. Peruza's granddaughter, who is hoping to raise money to help the family make final arrangements.

"The only transportation he had was his bike to go to work at Safeway on Forest Drive. He did not have insurance in order to cover the funeral expenses," Mr. Peruza's granddaughter wrote. "My mom is currently unemployed and I am a college student. Any donation to help is welcome and appreciated."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Annapolis Police Department at 410-268-9000.
