Severna Park Community Mourns Loss of 17-Year-Old Aspiring Lawyer; 'She Ended Her Battle With Depression,' Family Says

The close-knit Severna Park community is mourning the loss of a 17-year-old high school student.  Imani Andrea Sawyerr, an aspiring lawyer, died earlier this month after a long battle with depression.

"Imani ended her four-year battle with depression on Wednesday, February 17th, 2021,' the family said in an online obituary.  "Her passing leaves a large hole in our hearts, which will never be filled."

Imani was expected to graduate this spring with the 2021 senior class at Severna Park High School. In addition to her plans of becoming a lawyer, Sawyerr was also passionate about the art of dance.  "Anyone who knew anything about Imani knew that her passion was dancing," the obituary says.  "It was her escape, her chance to express her individuality and make friends.”

Imani was a member of the Level Dance Project in Cape St. Claire as well as the Severna Park High School Dance Team.

Her family says she achieved phenomenal grades at school and worked as a Thrive Gymnastics tutor. "She set a high bar in everything she pursued and achieved exceptional results through effort and sheer determination."

Imani's family and friends will celebrate her life this afternoon during a funeral mass held at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Severna Park.

The Sawyerr Family is asking for anyone who wishes to honor Imani to consider donating to the Severna Park High School Dance Team in lieu of flowers. To donate or to learn more about how to support the dance team, click: Ever Loved

  1. this is because lots of the teachers of the school are unfit for teaching and all there programs don't help because they have a problem of not taking action against the teachers and students it is sad to see this and lots of faculty should be removed
