8th Grade Student at Corkran Middle in Glen Burnie Dies By Suicide, School Principal Says in Letter to Families

An eighth grade student at Corkran Middle School died by suicide yesterday, according to a letter written by his Principal, Adam Zetwick.

"Nick Lupinos, an eighth-grader at our school, died today," Principal Zetwick wrote in the letter.  "With the permission of Nick’s family, I am able to tell you that Nick struggled with depression and anxiety, and that he took his own life."

Zetwick said Nick, 14, was an intelligent, quick-witted young man who loved singing, playing guitar and learning history.

In light of Nick's tragic death, resources are being made available to those impacted by the news. Through the school, his family is encouraging others to be supportive of those who may be in need of mental health attention.  "Nick’s family asked that I urge you to be cognizant of each other’s mental health and to seek help if there is a need to do so. They asked me to encourage you pay attention to the needs of each other and to lift up, support, and encourage each other in every way possible."

The Anne Arundel County Crisis Warmline is a critical resource for those in crisis. A trained crisis counselor can also be contacted through a secure Crisis Text Line portal by texting “Hello” to 741741. That service is confidential and also available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
