BWI Marshall Airport Announces Immediate Shutdown of Spirit Airlines Operations, Cancels All Flights Out of BWI
BWI Marshall Airport has announced the immediate cancellation of all Spirit Airlines flights as the company begins an orderly wind-down of its operations, according to information provided on the official restructuring website.
The airline stated that Spirit Airlines has ceased all flight activity and instructed passengers not to go to the airport, as no flights are operating. Travelers with existing reservations are being told that the airline will not provide rebooking assistance and must instead make their own arrangements with other carriers.
Customers who purchased tickets directly using a credit or debit card will receive automatic refunds returned to their original form of payment. Those who booked travel through third-party agencies are instructed to contact those providers directly to pursue refunds.
Spirit Airlines has stated that additional forms of compensation will be subject to the bankruptcy process. According to the company, refunds related to travel vouchers, credits, or loyalty points will be determined through proceedings in bankruptcy court. The airline further stated that its Free Spirit loyalty points program is no longer active, with points unable to be redeemed or transferred.
The airline noted that it will not reimburse customers for incidental expenses, including replacement flights, hotel accommodations, or other travel-related costs incurred as a result of the shutdown.
Customers seeking assistance with lost baggage or personal belongings are directed to use the online resources referenced on the company’s restructuring website. For further inquiries related to claims, the airline has instructed customers to contact its designated claims agent as part of the ongoing bankruptcy process.
Spirit Airlines expressed appreciation to its customers for their support over the years, marking the conclusion of its operations as the company moves forward with its wind-down process.
