Anne Arundel Community College Appoints Dr. Tanya Millner as Interim President

Anne Arundel Community College has announced the appointment of Dr. Tanya Millner as interim president, effective July 1, 2026, following the retirement of current president Dr. Dawn Lindsay on June 30.

The appointment was approved unanimously by the college’s Board of Trustees during a recent vote. Millner has served as provost and vice president of Learning since August 2021.

According to Board of Trustees Chair A. Joyce Price-Jones, the board expressed confidence in Millner’s leadership during what officials described as a period of “intentional transition.”
“The board has full confidence in Dr. Millner’s ability to guide the college through this period of intentional transition,” Price-Jones said in a statement. “She is the right leader to provide the continuity needed as the college prepares for new presidential leadership and clarifies faculty representation so faculty and administration can work together in service to the college’s mission and vision.”

Millner was selected based on her institutional knowledge, academic experience and commitment to students. In her current role, she oversees five schools of study at AACC, including Business and Law, Continuing Education, Health Sciences, Liberal Arts and Science, and Technology and Education.

The Division of Learning also manages strategic planning, teaching and learning advancement, research and institutional effectiveness, learning outcomes assessment, instructional planning, faculty hiring and budget management.

Under the direction of the Board of Trustees, Millner has led a review of the college’s academic portfolio and resources, expanded statewide transfer agreements and strengthened the Early College Access Program, which allows high school students to take college-level courses while still enrolled in high school.

“I am honored to serve AACC during this important time as we build upon the solid foundation provided by Dr. Lindsay,” Millner said. “This is a time of significant changes at the college, but each change is part of a broader effort to strengthen the institution to deliver exceptional learning experiences for everyone at AACC. I am committed to supporting our students, employees and community as we move forward together.”

The college is currently conducting a national search for its next president, with plans to name a permanent successor by the end of December 2026 and a preferred start date of July 2027. The Board of Trustees announced a presidential search committee in April, with recruitment efforts expected to begin later this month.

Dr. Lindsay, who has served as president for 14 years, praised Millner’s leadership and expressed confidence in the college’s future.

“I have every confidence that Dr. Millner will support the college's strategic plan,” Lindsay said. “I know her to be a caring and brave leader who will continue to move AACC forward as a dynamic, student-centered college.”

During Lindsay’s tenure, AACC expanded campus facilities, strengthened academic programming and navigated challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Major projects completed during her presidency included the Health and Life Sciences Building and the Clauson Center for Innovation and Skilled Trades, along with renovations across campus. She also established the college’s first chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer and led the institution through two successful accreditation reviews.
