PRESS RELEASE: HOUSE OF DELEGATES TO HEAR LANDMARK ELECTION INTEGRITY LEGISLATION SPONSORED BY MARYLAND FREEDOM CAUCUS

The Maryland Freedom Caucus, alongside grassroots partners Secure the Vote MD, recently presented testimony in support of the Secure the
Vote Act of 2026, comprehensive legislation designed to address documented vulnerabilities in Maryland’s election systems and restore public confidence in the electoral process.

According to a press release by the Caucus, Delegate Grammer, the bill’s lead sponsor, brought the measure as a response to
this past Fall’s disturbing revelations about a high-profile illegal immigrant discovered in Maryland’s voter registration system. "The Ian Roberts debacle wasn't about immigration - it showed fraud in our electoral system and that the
checks and balances in law are not being executed. Maryland's vote is not secure. That is why we are bringing the Secure the Vote Act."

Secure the Vote MD worked closely with lawmakers in developing the legislation
and securing broad support among House Republicans, the press release states. “Common sense tells us that a system is only as secure as the safeguards built into it,” said Kate Sullivan, Director of Secure the Vote MD. “This bill closes known vulnerabilities instead of pretending they don’t exist.”

In the press release, representatives for The Maryland Freedom Caucus stated that the Secure the Vote Act of 2026 strengthens Maryland election law by:

Requiring voter identification, while establishing a free and accessible

Process for all eligible Marylanders to obtain ID
Ending the use of unattended ballot drop boxes for absentee ballots

Requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration

Ensuring uniform voter registration standards for municipal elections where only citizens may vote
Mandating regular statewide audits and ongoing maintenance of the voter rolls

Restoring absentee voting to defined circumstances, with enhanced signature verification and chain-of-custody protections
Supporters are encouraged to contact members of the House Government, Labor and Elections Committee and urge a favorable report on HB 964.
