Erica Roach Named Chief Deputy Comptroller of Maryland
Brooke E. Lierman, Comptroller of Maryland, announced that Erica Roach will become Chief Deputy Comptroller following the June departure of Andrew Schaufele.
“Erica Roach brings an extraordinary depth of experience to this role,” Lierman said, noting Roach’s record in both federal and state government. Ms. Roach will oversee strategic priorities including revenue administration, financial reporting, taxpayer services, and modernization initiatives.
Roach joined the Comptroller’s Office in 2025 as Assistant Deputy Comptroller for Revenue Operations, managing six divisions supporting over $27 billion in annual state revenue. Schaufele praised her leadership, vision, and expertise in transforming financial systems.
Before state service, Ms. Roach held senior financial roles at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and leadership positions with Deloitte Consulting, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Tantus Technologies, driving modernization and digital transformation initiatives.
Ms. Roach holds an MBA from Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, a Master of Public Management from University of Maryland, and a BA from State University of New York at Old Westbury. She also completed an Executive Leadership Certificate at MIT Sloan School of Management.
Ms. Roach said she looks forward to building on her predecessor’s foundation and continuing to modernize the Comptroller’s Office for Maryland taxpayers.
