County Executive Steuart Pittman Announces Over $8 Million in Federal Funding for Anne Arundel Public Safety, Infrastructure, and Community Programs
Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman has announced more than $8 million in federal funding for local public safety, infrastructure, and community programs. County Pittman joined Chris Van Hollen, Angela Alsobrooks, and Sarah Elfreth at the YWCA of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County and the Anne Arundel County Nonprofit Center to highlight the funding.
The federal funding package includes several significant investments across the county:
$3.5 Million for Joint 911 Public Safety Center Technology
Anne Arundel County will receive $3,500,000 to advance technology for a Joint 911 Public Safety Center. Currently, Anne Arundel is the only county in Maryland without a unified emergency call center for police and fire departments. Officials say the investment will modernize emergency communications, improve coordination between agencies, and enhance response times for residents in crisis.
$3.15 Million for Crownsville Meyer Building Rehabilitation
A total of $3,150,000 will support rehabilitation of the Meyer Building at Crownsville Hospital Memorial Park. As the park undergoes transformation into a place of healing and reflection, the Meyer Building has been identified as a future multipurpose facility. Plans include space for veterans and transitional housing, along with essential amenities and support services.
$1 Million for Gun Violence Intervention Program
The county’s Gun Violence Intervention Program will receive $1,000,000 to expand violence interruption strategies. Officials describe violence interruption programming as a proven approach that mediates conflicts, reduces the risk of escalation, and shifts community norms around interpersonal violence.
$697,000 for YWCA Support Services
The YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County will receive $697,000 to assist victims and survivors of domestic violence and abuse. Funding will support education initiatives, workforce development, and rehousing assistance aimed at helping individuals achieve long-term stability.
$133,000 for Anne Arundel County Food Bank
An additional $133,000 has been allocated to the Anne Arundel County Food Bank to purchase a new refrigerated vehicle. The vehicle will enhance weekly donation pickups and ensure safe delivery of perishable items to the warehouse for distribution to residents facing food insecurity.
County officials emphasized that these investments reflect a coordinated effort to strengthen public safety systems, expand housing and social support services, and meet basic needs across the community.
Pittman expressed gratitude to Maryland’s federal delegation for securing the funding, noting that the projects will have lasting impacts on infrastructure, safety, and the wellbeing of Anne Arundel County residents.
