Beloved Mother, Friend, and Community Advocate Glenda ‘Ms. G’ Gathers Passes Away

Glenda “Ms. G” Gathers, a beloved mother, friend, mentor, and longtime community advocate, has passed away. Known throughout Anne Arundel County for her faith, generosity, and unwavering dedication, “Ms. G” touched the lives of countless individuals.


Among her many contributions, "Ms. G" played a key role in the development of the Severn Center, a community hub featuring a senior activity center, Boys & Girls Club, and flexible spaces for residents of all ages. Her work helped turn a decades-long vision into a lasting resource for the community. "This innovative project, which will provide intergenerational programming opportunities for previously underserved communities, would not have happened without the vision of Glenda “Ms. G” Gathers," a Severn Center announcement stated. 

In a social media statement, Senator Pam Beidle said, "My deepest sympathy to the family of Mrs Glenda Gathers. Mrs G has been a dedicated community activist. I loved working with her and Lisa Shore to create the Severn Community Center. In my opinion, the Severn Center would still be a dream. Rest in Peace Mrs G. You are missed."

This woman impacted so many lives in our county and region," Councilman Pete Smith said in a Facebook post.  "Please consider making a contribution to her funeral services so she can be sent off appropriately. She truly blessed so many lives."

Councilman Smith recently stated "Mrs. G. has been a blessing for our communities for decades. 
"It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Ms. Glenda, affectionately known as Ms. G, a beloved mother, friend, a pillar of the community, and most of all, a woman of God, who meant so much to so many. Our family is grieving this unexpected loss and facing the emotional and financial burden that comes with laying a loved one to rest," the GoFundMe profile says. "We are asking for support to help cover funeral and memorial expenses so we can honor Ms. G with the dignity and love she deserves. She has done so much for so many people. Any donation, share, or kind thought is deeply appreciated during this difficult time."

According to School Board Member Gloria Dent, "We are deeply saddened to report the passing of Ms. Glenda, fondly referred to as Ms. G, a cherished mother, friend, and cornerstone of the community, who embodied the spirit of compassion and faith. In order to honor her memory with the dignity and respect she deserves, we respectfully ask for support to defray funeral and memorial costs. Ms. G's generosity and kindness have positively impacted numerous individuals. Your donation, sharing of this appeal, or kind thoughts would be gratefully received in this difficult period."
