Acting Annapolis Police Chief Amy Miguez Among Law Enforcement Leaders Present as DGS Secretary Testifies on Capitol Police Expansion Bill

Acting Annapolis Police Chief Amy Miguez was among the local law enforcement leaders present when Maryland Department of General Services Secretary Atif Chaudhry testified before the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee in support of Senate Bill 298.

Deputy Annapolis Police Chief Stanley Brandford was also in attendance.

The legislation, sponsored by Senator Shaneka Henson, would strengthen the Maryland Capitol Police’s ability to protect state facilities, employees, and the public by expanding the agency’s jurisdiction. The bill would allow Capitol Police officers to respond to incidents, conduct investigations, and coordinate with law enforcement partners beyond their current limited perimeter.

The Department of General Services stated that the proposed expansion is intended to close gaps in public safety and threat response.

Senate Bill 298, which can be read by clicking here, is currently under consideration by the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee.
