Caucus of African American Leaders to Honor LGBTQIA+ Community at Annapolis Awards Program

The Caucus of African American Leaders (CAAL) announced in a press release that it will host an LGBTQIA+ Awards Program on Saturday, July 25, 2026, recognizing members of the LGBTQIA+ community for their leadership and contributions to Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.

The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Roger "Pip" Moyer Recreation Center, 273 Hilltop Lane in Annapolis. The organization said the ceremony will honor, among others, Anne Arundel County Judge-designee Brian A. Marshall, Delegate Dylan Behler, and Annapolis Alderman Keanuu Smith-Brown.

CAAL also announced that Kristina Korona, president of the Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County, Joe Toolan of Annapolis Pride, and more than 40 additional individuals will be recognized during the event for their contributions and leadership within the community.

The organization said honorees will receive citations from State Senator Shaneka Henson, Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman, Annapolis Mayor Jared Littmann, Anne Arundel County Board of Education President Gloria Dent, Anne Arundel County NAACP President Steven Waddy, and the Caucus of African American Leaders.

In the release, CAAL Convener Carl O. Snowden said the organization believes the recognition comes at an important time.

"At a time when the Trump Administration is marginalizing members of this community, we believe it is important to recognize our LGBTQIA+ brothers and sisters and to make it clear that we will stand with them," Snowden said.

The awards program is open to the public. The event flyer lists tickets at $50 each, with proceeds benefiting the Malcolm X Memorial.
