Governor Wes Moore Visits Glen Burnie's Fox Auto Services Academy, Celebrating the Next Generation of Skilled Trades
What began as a bold vision has grown into a hands-on workforce development program that is helping prepare local high school students for careers in the automotive industry.
Just a few short years ago, Owner Salvador Vega Sibrian first shared his dream with Governor Moore of creating an academy where students could gain practical automotive skills, discover their potential, and build pathways to meaningful careers. Today, that vision has become a reality at the Fox Auto Service Academy in Glen Burnie.
During the visit, Governor Moore met with students participating in the Summer Automotive Boot Camp and even stepped into the action by competing against one of the students, highlighting the academy's engaging, hands-on approach to learning.
The academy was established to empower the next generation through practical education, mentorship, and workforce development opportunities that equip students with the skills and confidence needed to pursue meaningful, long-term careers in the automotive field.
Fox Auto Services also recognized Caliente Grill for its generous support in providing lunch for students and guests during the event.
According to County Executive Steuart Pittman:
This morning, we welcomed Governor Wes Moore and state leaders to Anne Arundel County on their “Delivering for Maryland” tour, with stops at an ENOUGH funded Mechanic Summer Learning Program at Fox Auto Services and the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Real-Time Information Center (RTIC).
Governor Moore understands that real progress happens when state and local leaders work side by side to deliver for our communities. We were proud to host him today and show him the incredible results of our state and county partnerships to fight childhood poverty and revolutionize crime prevention.
I want to thank Governor Moore and his administration for these investments in our communities, and for taking the time to visit to see how they are benefiting our residents.
Reflecting on the academy's journey, Fox Auto Services said the day demonstrated that determination, strong community support, and unwavering faith can transform even the boldest dreams into reality.
The academy also shared a message of encouragement for young people pursuing their goals:
"Never let anyone tell you it's impossible. Keep working. Keep believing.
In a statement, Governor Wes Moore said the following: When community members lead, solutions stick.
"Thanks to funding from the ENOUGH Initiative, students are spending their summer at Fox Automotive in Glen Burnie, learning and building valuable real-world skill sets that will let them connect to jobs and certifications that employers look for. The ENOUGH Initiative puts real power and funding directly into the hands of the people who know their neighborhoods best."
Located in Glen Burnie, the Fox Auto Services Academy represents a growing investment in skilled trades and workforce development in Anne Arundel County, giving students valuable real-world experience while helping build the next generation of automotive professionals.
