South County Candidate Open House to Bring Candidates and Residents Together in Lothian

Residents of Lothian and surrounding South County communities will have an opportunity to meet candidates seeking local, state and federal offices during the South County Candidate Open House, scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Southern Middle School in Lothian. 

The community-focused event, hosted by We Are Lothian under the leadership of Ms. Maisie T. Howard in partnership with the Caucus of African American Leaders, is designed to connect residents directly with candidates ahead of the November general election. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions, discuss issues affecting their communities and learn more about those seeking to represent them.

According to event organizers, candidates seeking offices at multiple levels of government have confirmed their participation, including several candidates competing for the same office:

Maryland State Senate, District 30: Shaneka T. Henson and Jessica Haire.

Maryland House of Delegates, District 30B: R. Seth Howard and Matt Johnston.

Anne Arundel County Council, District 7: Spencer Jones and Dawn Pulliam.

U.S. House of Representatives: Adrian Boafo.

Clerk of the Circuit Court: Douglas Finbar Graham and M.K. Fowler.

Circuit Court Judge: Sidney A. Butcher and Ginina A. Jackson-Stevenson.

Judge of the Orphans' Court: Stacey Scott and Matt O'Connell.

Anne Arundel County Sheriff: Everett Sesker.

The event is intended to serve residents throughout South County, including Lothian, Deale, Shady Side, Edgewater, Churchton, West River, Galesville, Harwood, Mayo, Friendship, Owings, Tracey's Landing, Columbia Beach and North Beach.

Organizers say the open house will provide an opportunity for residents to engage in respectful, issue focused conversations with candidates, learn about matters affecting the region and make informed decisions at the ballot box.

Supporting organizations include the NAACP of Anne Arundel County, the Community Alliance of South County and the Southern High School Student Government Association.
