Behind on Your BGE Bill? Here Are the Options Available Before Disconnection
BGE says service interruption is a last resort and that customers who are past due receive several notices over a period of weeks, giving them opportunities to address their balance or seek assistance.
The timeline for each customer varies based on individual circumstances.
As part of its collections restart plan this summer, BGE said it has enhanced support options for customers experiencing difficulty paying their bills.
Those options include extended payment arrangements of up to 18 to 24 months. Customers who are in arrears and seeking to maintain or restore service also will not be required to pay a deposit.
BGE is continuing to promote financial assistance programs, including the Office of Home Energy Programs, commonly known as OHEP, and the Fuel Fund.
The utility is encouraging customers who need help to take advantage of available payment arrangements and assistance programs before their accounts reach the point of service interruption.
Information and resources are available at bge.com/heretohelp.
BGE is also out in the community meeting customers in person. Customers can visit BGE’s Community Events Calendar for upcoming in-person and virtual event options.
