The walk is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Bates Athletic Complex at Weems Whalen Field, 935 Spa Road in Annapolis. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the walk starting at 9 a.m. A minimum registration contribution of $30 is requested.

This year's event marks 13 years of impact, with organizers reporting that the Rev. Callie Cares Scholarship initiative has now served more than 25 young people. The annual walk has also traditionally helped raise awareness of breast cancer while carrying forward Rev. Matthews' commitment to faith, education, service and supporting the next generation.
Rev. Matthews passed away on October 2, 2013, at the age of 67. Her family established the annual walk in her honor, building what has become a longstanding community tradition centered around her legacy.

Throughout her life, Rev. Matthews served in ministry at several United Methodist congregations, including Asbury United Methodist Church in Jessup from 2000 to 2005 and Mount Zion and Fowler United Methodist Churches in Annapolis from 2005 to 2009. She was remembered for compassionate leadership, a commitment to education and advocacy for families and young people.

This year's theme, “Walk. Support. Empower. Transform.”, reflects that continuing mission. Organizers say the goal is not only to remember Rev. Matthews, but to turn that remembrance into tangible opportunities for young people.
