Police Accuse Teen of Assaulting an Officer, Attempting to Evade Police During Traffic Stop in Crofton
The Anne Arundel County Police Department said a teen subject allegedly assaulted an officer while attempting to evade police during a traffic stop in Crofton.
Department officials said that on October 29, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers responded for a report of suspected drug distribution in the 900 block of Waugh Chapel Way in Odenton. Investigators said that a witness reported that there were two armed males selling drugs from a vehicle behind the shopping center.
According to a statement released by the police department, Officers located the suspects and had them get out of the vehicle, a 2023 Hyundai Sonata. "One of the suspects assaulted an officer and fled on foot while the other was detained. The fleeing suspect was apprehended after a short foot pursuit," the statement said. "The fleeing suspect sustained injuries during the incident and was transported to an area hospital for treatment."
A loaded, unserialized, 9mm handgun, $1440.00 in U.S. currency, and approximately 60 grams of suspected Cannabis, packaged for sale, were observed within the vehicle, police said. "Further investigation led to the execution of a search warrant for a second vehicle that was parked next to the Hyundai, a 2010 Mazda 6, resulting in the seizure of a digital scale and a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun, which was reported stolen."
Police arrested Jaden Camryn Nowell, (shown above) a 19-year-old resident of Crofton. Lavaughn Demetrius Coleman (not pictured), a 21-year-old Crofton resident, was also charged in connection with this incident.
