Police: Man Charged in Connection with Mass Shooting in Annapolis Was Victims' Neighbor

The man charged with fatally shooting 3 people and injuring 3 others in Annapolis yesterday was a neighbor to the victims who lived at the home where the incident allegedly occurred, authorities said.  

On Sunday, June 11, 2023, Annapolis Police officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Paddington Place for a reported shooting incident. A preliminary investgation revealed that a total of six individuals were shot. "Three were pronounced deceased at the scene and three were sent to area hospitals." 

The suspect, Charles Robert Smith (shown above), 43, was immediately taken into custody and the suspected weapons were recovered. 

Smith has been charged with multiple crimes, including 3 counts of second degree murder and 3 counts of attempted second degree murder. He is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention.

The deceased have been identified as:

Nicholas Mireles, 55, of Odenton

Mario Antonio Mireles Ruiz, 27, of Annapolis

Christian Marlon Segovia, 25, of Severn

A motive to the shooting has yet to be released.  Police have not confirmed reports which suggest that a conflict related to parking during a gathering at the victims' home is what preceeded the incident.
