Phoenix Academy Principal Arrested, Charged with the Armed Robbery of a Woman in Baltimore

Phoenix Academy Principal Mark S. Brown has been arrested and charged with allegedly robbing a woman at gunpoint on Monday, according to charging documents obtained by Report Annapolis News.  

According to the documents, the woman reportedly told police that the incident took place inside her home in Baltimore after having a date with Mr. Brown at a nearby establishment.  Mr. Brown, 45, allegedly started yelling at her due to being unable to locate his cell phone once inside the home.  "Mr. Brown retrieved a gun from his waistband, held it at his side and continued asking about his phone," charging documents said.  "The woman reported that she feared for her life, told Mr. Brown to put the gun away and offered to help him locate his phone.  Mr. Brown refused her help."  

Police wrote in charging documents that the woman  reported no injuries and said Mr. Brown did not point the gun at her, but held the gun in one hand while holding her cell phone in the other.  "She reported Mr. Brown told her that he wasn't playing and she needed to give him his phone back.  She reported that she was able to walk out of the house and run to a neighbor's, as Mr. Brown followed."

The woman, who was identified as a student at Morgan State University where Mr. Brown also works, reported to police that Mr. Brown exited the home with the gun in his hand, and the neighbor saw him with it, police wrote in the court documents.  Mr. Brown allegedly also left the home with the woman's phone, which was reportedly later tracked down and recovered, the documents state.  

The woman denied ever having possession of Mr. Brown's phone, or knowing its whereabouts, police wrote.  

Sources say Mr. Brown was arrested at Phoenix Academy and taken into custody by Baltimore City Police, with the assistance of the Anne Arundel County Police Department.  He is currently being held without bond at the Baltimore City Jail on multiple charges, including- armed robbery, second degree assault, theft and handgun related charges, according to online records.  

The Anne Arundel County Public School System released a letter to families but provided no further comment.
