Authorities Identify Annapolis Woman as Person Struck by Teen Driver During Fatal Accident on Riva Road

The Anne Arundel County Police Department has identified a local woman as the person killed during an accident on Riva Road in Annapolis.

In a press release, the police department said on February 12, 2023, at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers responded to Riva Road at Broad Creek Drive for a crash. "The investigation revealed that a pedestrian crossed the southbound lanes of Riva Road against the traffic signal. The pedestrian was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing and walking from west to east when she was struck by a 2016 Ford Focus,"  the release said.  "The pedestrian was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center by Anne Arundel County Fire Department paramedics with life-threatening injuries, and was pronounced deceased at the hospital a short time after arrival."

The driver of the Ford, an unidentified 17 year old from Riva, remained at the scene and was not injured. The pedestrian victim was identified as Mary Johannes Summers, 54.  

"Mary was a ray of sunshine; she exuded warmth, light, and love," a friend said inside an online tribute.  "I’ll miss her warm hugs, her infectious laughter, and her beautiful smile."
