Authorities Capture Jessup Inmate Several Hours After Escape From Transport Van

Multiple police agencies were involved in the capture of an inmate from Jessup Correctional several hours after he reportedly escaped earlier today. 

Maryland State Police, with assistance from Anne Arundel County Police and Howard County Police, captured the inmate who escaped from a Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services transport in Howard County.

The inmate, Randy Morris, 38, was incarcerated for burglary at the Jessup Correctional Institute. According to a preliminary investigation, Morris was being transported to a medical appointment when he escaped from the van as it was stopped in the area of Dorsey Run Road and Route 32 in Howard County.

Morris was one of 5 inmates in the van at the time of his escape, which occurred at about 8:30 a.m. this morning. All other inmates have been accounted for.  Morris was not secured while being transported. He was recaptured at about 6 p.m. this evening not far from where he initially escaped.
