Baltimore Woman, 37, Dies Following Pedestrian-Involved Motor Vehicle Collision in Annapolis

A 37 year old woman from Baltimore has died just a few days after she was struck by a vehicle in Annapolis.

In a press release, the Annapolis Police Department said that on July 3, 2023 at approximately 7:56am, emergency units responded to an area on Ridgely Avenue for a crash involving a vehicle striking two pedestrians, later identified as Shawnna Johnston (shown above), 37, and a 17 year old female, both of Baltimore.

According to police, a preliminary investigation shows that both pedestrians were crossing Ridgely Avenue when they were in the middle of the roadway as a motorist turned onto Ridgely Avenue, striking both pedestrians. "The motorist remained on scene to assist officers with the investigation. At the time, the victims were driven to the Anne Arundel Medical Center for treatment of suspected minor injuries," department officials said.  "On July 6, 2023, Shawnna Johnston died and the Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of her death to be complications to the injuries she sustained in the crash."

A funeral will be held for Ms. Johnston at Bibleway Missionary Baptist, in Baltimore, on Saturday, July 22, an online obituary says.

It is unclear if any charges will be filed against the driver, a 67 year old woman from Arnold.
